¡¡¡¡Maestro
Wang Yongji is the artistic director and conductor. One
of the most distinguished conductors in China, he was
born in Shanghai in 1947. He graduated from the violin
department of the Shanghai Conservatory High School, and
then began to study conducting under Professor Huang Xiaotong.
He graduated with honors from the conducting department
of the Shanghai Conservatory. Beginning in 1969, he was
appointed the conductor of ¡°Harbor¡± Orchestra of the Shanghai
Peking Opera Troupe. Since 1977 he has also been the permanent
and principal conductor of the Shanghai Film Orchestra.
In 1986 he was awarded the Shanghai Municipal Prize for
Arts and Literature. In 2001, he was appointed as the
artistic director of the Shanghai Chinese Orchestra. He
has recorded music for more than one hundred story films
and art films and for more than one thousand television
film episodes. He is also well-known for his appearances
on screen.
¡¡¡¡In 1998, Maestro Wang was a visiting scholar with the
Chicago Symphony Orchestra, where he received support
and guidance from conductor Daniel Barenboim. He was also
praised for his excellent teaching and directing of the
orchestra at Yale University. He has collaborated with
many musicians, including the Chicago Symphony soloists,
pianists from the US and Argentina and violinists from
Japan and Korea. He has been highly praised by both Chinese
and foreign critics.
¡¡¡¡In
addition to his regular conducting assignments, Wang
Yongji has conducted the Hong Kong Sinfonietta , the
Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Opera Symphony
Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Shanghai Opera House,
the Orchestra of the Harbin Opera House and many other
ensembles. He also conducted concerts of the Shanghai
Chinese Orchestra in Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong
to enthusiastic reviews.

Wang¡¯s conducting is filled with his intense personality
and reveals the musical works from a unique perspective.
He has been the artistic director and principal conductor
of Chinese Opera Orchestra of Shanghai since February
2010.
¡¡¡¡The
quality of the orchestra and its performances under
Maestro Wang was immediately recognized and honored.
It was recently selected to represent the city of Shanghai
in two gala performances at the Shanghai International
Expo and was selected as one of the famous international
groups celebrating the 2010 Asia Games in Guangzhou.
